A Zimbabwean family on vacation witnessed a fierce lion hunt against a herd of impalas in Matusadona National Park. The intense encounter, captured on video by Simeone Lategan, has been uploaded to the Latest Sightings YouTube channel, offering a rare glimpse into the power and precision of lion hunting tactics.

The video shows the resulting chaos as the frightened impalas try to escape the approaching predators. Despite their agility, the lions manage to successfully take down an unfortunate antelope.

While celebrating his father’s 70th birthday on a houseboat on Lake Kariba, Lategan documented the 22 lions dividing their forces to flank a large herd of impala.

Describing the event, Mr Simeone recounted: “During our boat safari, we witnessed buffalo and elephants, which was really impressive. However, as we returned to the main boat, we observed movement and activity on Fothergill Island, approx. at 500 meters. At first they looked like lions from a distance, but as we got closer it became clear: there were 22 lions in the middle of the impala hunt.”

“All the lions split up, half surrounded the pride while the others sat in ambush near the water’s edge; this resulted in chaos. The pride began to scatter and run in all directions. Some of the impalas were centimeters from being caught, while others managed to escape safely,” he added.
