WrestleMania season is one of the best times of the year for wrestling fans, as WWE brings together the biggest and best superstars to fill out the two-day card.
The 2024 edition of the main event comes from Philadelphia, the mecca of American wrestling. As a result, Triple H and his creative team will look to do everything possible to ensure a legendary weekend on April 6-7.
Despite several injuries and negative reactions from the WWE Universe about The Rock seemingly replacing Cody Rhodes in the main event, here are the matches the company should book at WrestleMania 40.
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes
From a business perspective, adding The Rock to the ‘Mania card is a no-brainer, thanks to his fame and popularity in the WWE Universe. The problem was that Triple H and company didn’t anticipate the backlash of ruining last year’s main storyline.
Despite an atrocious start to the Road to WrestleMania 40 with Rhodes delivering his dream match against Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed World Championship, Thursday’s press conference generated legitimate enthusiasm for The Show of Shows.
With The Rock teasing a heel gimmick and Rhodes playing the role of babyface, WWE Creative would be foolish not to put the title on the line in a Triple Threat and allow The American Nightmare to pin The Great One, setting up a spring and summer of Reigns chasing the new champion.
Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins vs. Sami Zayn
At first, it seemed like Rhodes would be relegated to the World Heavyweight Championship scene against Seth Rollins, but it’s clear that he and Reigns will go head to head.
The Visionary made a fool of himself at the WrestleMania kickoff press conference on Thursday, but his match will end up being one of the biggest on the card at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Despite dealing with a knee injury, Rollins should defend his title against arguably the best heel in the business right now, Drew McIntyre, and one of the biggest babyfaces on the main roster, Sami Zayn.
The Triple Threat stipulation not only protects Rollins and his injured knee, but also allows two Superstars to make up for the overall influence lost when CM Punk was injured.
Plus, McIntrye and Zayn haven’t been used properly for too long, so giving them this spot and letting them steal the show would reward them for their hard work.
Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch
The biggest possible match for the Women’s World Championship in WWE right now would be a battle between defending champion Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch.
The two have been on a collision course for months, but it’s finally time to prepare for the main fight.
While Lynch has been in a holding pattern for months despite her widespread popularity, Ripley has been a dominant force, both in the ring and from a storyline perspective.
The Man could easily walk out of Philadelphia with the title, but if WWE wants to make Ripley the face of the division, a win against Lynch at WrestleMania 40 would be a major accomplishment.
Some of the best WrestleMania matches in history have pitted former friends or even brothers against each other (look no further than the historic battle between Bret and Owen Hart) and the match between Jey and Jimmy Uso will be no exception.
Jey is one of the most popular faces in all of wrestling, and his brother has become a hated heel, working as Reigns’ backup in The Bloodline.
With Jimmy likely to cost his brother the Intercontinental Title against Gunther, the stage will be set for an incredible singles match pitting Jey against his twin on wrestling’s biggest stage.
Despite valid questions about the substance of Logan Paul’s character, WWE understands his value as a popular social media star and continues to target him as a high-performing performer.
To build on his momentum, Triple H should face John Cena at WrestleMania.
Cena is one of the biggest homegrown Superstars in WWE history, and a return for a match on The Show of Shows would be big news for fans and mainstream media alike.
Add in the fact that he will be facing someone the tabloids love, and the match between Paul and Cena would attract the attention of media outlets around the world.
