Super Bowl commercials seem to be making a comeback in recent years. Since that 2017-2020 period, we’ve had too many overly serious, overly long, safe, boring ones reminding us of things we don’t need help remembering, etc. But nothing beats a excellent The Super Bowl commercial, and these commercials, and I’m not being dramatic, might be the best bunch yet.
Jump into the comments below to talk about your favorite, most hated, or where jake is very wrong.
A couple quick notes on the criteria:
- I skipped most of the old (not fun) commercials for cars, banking and such…they didn’t make sense and didn’t come close to making the Top 10…or 20.
- This story will be updated throughout Sunday night as more commercials air.
- Movie trailers don’t count. That’s a completely different category and they would dominate.
As for the rankings…
The best commercials from Super Bowl 2024
1. Paramount+: Mountain of Entertainment
Patrick Stewart saying, “Throw the child away” and “Shut your mouth!” It was as good as Creed showing up and Knuckles intervening. But all of this was topped off by Stewart singing, “I just threw it higher!”
2. State Farm: like a good neighbor
Aaarnold Schwarzenegger in his best role since True Lies.
3. BetMGM: Tom has won enough
I have to be honest. Vince Vaughn does this for me… well, and the babysitter. I’ve seen a lot of people who really don’t like these. I’m a fan (and no, not because, to be disclosed, they are our partners here. Jakey DGAF. It’s a fun commercial).
4. Dunkin’ Donuts: Dunkings, Ben Affleck
The wait was worth it! Amazing. I want the jacket! “How do you like donuts?”
“Who is TikTok?” Self-deprecating celebrities will always score humor points with me.
5. Skechers: No, Mr. T.
Mr. T insisting that “T” was in Skechers was fun and funny, especially since I would also spell Skechers with a T.
6. NERDS Gummies Clusters
What aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa with with with with free shipping! The Flashdance place. Plus the fact that this is the best candy ever invented and it’s finally getting its due with a commercial. It all beats Addison Rae’s random, unnecessary, sigh-inducing point.
7. CeraVe: I am Cera… Ve
Maybe I just find it funny, but this commercial made me laugh out loud.
8. T-Mobile: Internet sensation at home
Just when I was getting a little tired of the T-Mobile commercials, they brought me back with Jason Mamoa singing. Two Flashdance references?
9. Popeyes: The wait is over
The “What the fuck $%@#?” The self-driving car got me, I admit it.
10. M&M’s: Almost champions
Sorry runners-up, but I enjoyed this one, and well, this 12-time FSWA Awards runner-up (I’m not bitter!) is going to want one of those rings!
11. Frito-Lay: Taste Victory
Marshawn Lynch is an automatic win.
12. BMW: Talking like Walken
This one has a special place for me, as I always wished I could do a Walken knockoff… but never could (But Kevin Pollak…).
13. Cafe Stok: Wrex
I’m a big fan of Anthony Hopkins and watching him play (well, voice) Wrex; he was great.
14. Pluto TV: Couch potato
More fun than our streaming services cost today.
fifteen. Hellmann’s: Gato Mayo
I find this pretty funny, mainly due to the fact that a lot of people think a random “meow” is their cat talking – the fact that Pete Davidson gets abandoned again gets bonus points.
sixteen. Michelob ULTRA: Superior Beach
Messi and Ted Lasso together! Oh yeah, Dan Marino too.
17. Budweiser: Old School Home Delivery
The Clydesdales and THE DOG are back! Here only for its classic character.
18. Uber Eats: don’t forget
“Friends” callback, Usher, Jelly Roll, “Did someone doodle on my face?!” and even the Beckhams make this a fun commercial. I have a feeling most people will rank this higher just because of the sheer number of celebrities here.
19. Bud Light: Genius
I mean, who hasn’t… wished… they could find a genie to grant them wishes?
20. Mountain Dew: Having Fun
I chuckled, but this would have been pretty low on the list if it weren’t for Nick Offerman. “Parks and Recreation” Meeting!!
21. Doritos: Dina and Mita
My friends laughed even more at my silly joke that this would be a future “Fast and Furious” movie. And as you can see, my joke wasn’t that good.
22. Kawasaki: mullets
Stone Cold and a turtle with a mullet FTW! (…or F2P – For 21st place)
23. Thigh: Doctor on the plane
I laughed, and yet I’m not entirely sure why I did. But hey, funny?
24. Oikos: Hold my Oikos
Martin Lawrence is still pretty funny…maybe even better than in the “Bad Boys” sequel/reboot.
25. Silk: I feel good
I enjoyed seeing Jeremy Renner back, and with the reference to his injury… and Hawkeye.
Mehsville
E*TRADE: Picklebabies
Feels like me… late to the pickleball trend.
DraftKings: Kevin Hart
It all depends on whether you’re still entertained by Kevin Hart.
BIC: EZ Reach Lighter
I’m not sure I know this, but Willie Nelson smokes marijuana…
Etsy: gift mode
What do the French like? Cheese!!
Verizon: Beyonce breaks the Internet
I mean, I guess technically he did because everyone was wondering if he’s actually releasing new music.
Booking.com: Tina Fey whoever she wants to be
The Bigfoot part is kind of funny. That’s all.
BodyArmor: Counterfeit Field
Keep an eye out for those future Super Bowl bets on the BodyArmor color…probably not.
Miller Lite: Execution of Beer Ads
Wait, so you can be an ad? Or does Rob Riggle have a QR code for us to scan? EITHER?
Estrellado: it’s time to see other soft drinks
Do some people choose Starry over Sprite? Are there people who saw this and said, “Yes! I was hoping to see Ice Spice in a commercial! Maybe I’m just old and this isn’t for me (I prefer Coke Zero to anything else anyway). But points for the cool cartoon mascots! Oh, and wouldn’t Starry’s pet be testing the guy’s head Sprite?
Coors Light: Cold Train
Corona’s photo was kind of funny, but not even LL Cool J in the end couldn’t make it to this Top 10. Or 20. Orrrr 25?
Pfizer
Please stop this now.
Squarespace: Hello down there
Stop looking at our phones/devices? Or do aliens want to be friends? Or should we use our devices to communicate on Squarespace? Even with a Martin Scorsese length for a commercial, I didn’t like this one.
OREO: Twist
Well.
Lindt LINDOR: Life is a ball
Chocolate. Whatever. Plus, Baci and Ferrero Rocher are also awesome: LINDOR is doing their job for them!
Assorted fun miscellaneous
YES: Movie
Normally, I don’t include movies or TV shows, but rather The Office callback. The investment of time and quality is great!
Dawn: wash party
Have you already entered? I’ll go see a party with JJ Watt even without the million dollars!
Pringles: Mr. P.
I mean, Chris Pratt has played almost everything up to this point anyway.
Casas.com
A little funny.
Elf Cosmetics: You Have Been Summoned
Not even the cast of Suits could save this one… however, it seems like they’re saving more for later with the “summons.” And unless Harvey and Mike show up, I’m still calm.
And well. The Suits characters didn’t save this one.
Inspiring/Feel good/Warm and fuzzy
– Some really good ones this year! —
Kia: Perfect 10
Heartstrings… pulled!
Cetafil: #GameTimeGlow
We joke about the incredible attention Kelce+Swift are getting, but let’s be honest, Taylor Swift is good for the audience and especially for #GirlDads. Kia and this are the 10 best.
Additionally, there seem to be accusations thrown at Cetaphil, between the time this came out on YouTube and the Super Bowl, and they seem to have some weight through this tweet/link.
Paloma: strong blows
Great message.
HeGetsUs.com
Take care of others. Simple.
Google Pixel: Javier in the picture
That’s some pretty interesting technology.
Volkswagen: an American love story
They missed a great opportunity to make Herbie fall in love!
