Shakira claims that her career was put on the back burner for many years because of her ex-partner Gerard Piqué.
“For a long time I put my career on hold to be next to Gerard so he could play football,” said the Colombian singer in a new interview with the Sunday Times published on Saturday.
“There was a lot of sacrifice for love,” he added.
Shakira, 47, met Piqué, 37, on the set of the music video for her song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa”) in 2010.
Three years later, they welcomed their first child, Milan, 11, and had Sasha, 9, two years later.
The family was based in Barcelona, Spain, as Piqué played for the city’s soccer team.
Shakira trained on “The Voice” in the U.S. on occasion and released an album “El Dorado” in 2017, but she primarily focused on raising her children.
Then, in June 2022, she and Piqué announced their separation in a joint statement.
“We regret to confirm that we have separated,” the former couple said at the time. “We ask for privacy at this time for the well-being of our children, who are our top priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
Page Six later reported that Shakira was “devastated” by Piqué’s alleged infidelity with his now-girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, who is more than 20 years younger than the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer.
Shakira reportedly discovered her ex was having an affair when she discovered Jam missing from her house.
She got her musical revenge last year in a song called “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53,” which warbled in Spanish: “I’m worth two 22-year-olds/You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo.”
It is not the first time that Shakira speaks bitterly about the end of her relationship with Piqué.
Speaking to Billboard last year, the mother of two confessed to believing in “until death do us part.”
“My priority was my home, my family. She believed in ’till death do us part’. I believed in that dream,” Shakira said in September 2023.

“My parents have been together for, I don’t know, 50 years and they love each other like the first day, with a unique and unrepeatable love. “So I know it’s possible.”
She added at the time: “It’s what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn’t happen.”
Despite their relationship problems, it has been a tumultuous time for “The Voice” judge.
In November 2023, he narrowly avoided a possible prison sentence by pleading guilty to tax evasion in Spain.
Under a deal that was reached at the last minute, Shakira received a three-year suspended sentence estimated at around $7.6 million. She will soon release a new album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”.
