The jackpot is the sixth-largest Mega Millions ever and the 11th-largest in US lottery history (see lists below).
The jackpot was last won on December 8 when two California tickets sold at the same location split the $394 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot is $600 million with a cash option of $285.9 million, according to the Powerball website.

The annuity option pays over time. There is one immediate payment and then 29 subsequent annual payments, increasing by 5% each year. The cash option is significantly less than the advertised jackpot, but pays out in a lump sum. You don’t have to wait decades to get all the money.
