A timeline of the feud between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion: from Hot Girl Summer to Hiss and Big Foot

[ad_1]

There was a time when Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj only had positive things to say about each other. In 2019, they released one of the biggest hits of the year when they collaborated on “Hot Girl Summer,” and Megan consistently cited Minaj as one of her biggest idols.

Then everything went wrong. Whether sparked by Megan’s collaboration with Minaj’s rival Cardi B or some behind-the-scenes drama that has yet to be made public, the two rap stars are now at loggerheads and busy releasing tracks containing thinly veiled barbs. each other.

After Minaj, 41, explicitly referenced a lyric from Megan’s recent song “Hiss” in her own song “Big Foot,” fans have confirmation that the two former friends are now at war. . Here’s a timeline of their feud.

August 2019: “Hot Girl Summer”

As with many celebrity feuds, everything seemed very promising at first. In the summer of 2019, Megan had recently released her acclaimed mixtape, Fever, and she was becoming increasingly popular as a rising rapper.

In July, Megan was overjoyed when she had the opportunity to “meet” Nicki through a joint Instagram Live session. “We’re choking right now, we’re dead!” declared the Houston rapper when joining the broadcast. “Damn, we love you! Since 2008, when she was in eighth grade, and she could hear you.”

Grateful for the adoration, Minaj responded, “Congratulations on doing your thing, rapping, writing and going to school.”

After the rappers’ successful online chat, rumors quickly surfaced that they would collaborate on a new track to cement their professional union. It was soon confirmed by Minaj, who responded to a fan on Twitter (now X) and claimed that she wrote her verse shortly after hearing the music.

She wrote: “Very true. He was about to lose his voice and it was too late, so he already sounded like a man. But once I heard the song I fell in love. I wrote it b4 I went to sleep. None of that was planned. “I had no idea Meg was live or that she would want to be live on 2gthr.”

“Hot Girl Summer,” which also features Ty Dolla Sign, was released on August 9 and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

August 2020: “WAP”

With Megan’s star firmly on the rise, several other artists were eager to work with her, including Minaj’s former workout partner, Cardi B. “WAP,” a late summer song, was released in August 2020 as the single title track of “The Bodak Yellow star’s upcoming second album.”

It was instantly polarizing due to the explicit nature of the lyrics, but was hailed as a triumph of sexual empowerment and became the first female rap collaboration to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100.

While the song itself was a hit, it also fueled speculation that Megan had fallen out with Minaj, due to the “Anaconda” rapper’s long-running feud with Cardi B.

Tensions between the two had grown so much that they were involved in a physical altercation at a New York Fashion Week party in 2018, when Cardi allegedly threw a shoe at the rapper.

In late 2020, Megan was rumored to be distancing herself from Minaj and her friends, while also publicly praising Cardi following her success on “WAP.”

Minaj unfollowed Megan on Instagram in January 2021, prompting fans to start labeling them as rivals as they searched for signs of a feud in the lyrics of their respective songs. Months later, they were convinced that Minaj took a swipe at Megan on her song “Seeing Green,” where she raps: “A pizza Margherita with parmesan and garlic. These bitches are thirsty; I can see why they are alcoholics.”

September 2022: Reina Radio

After ignoring questions about Megan during a Queen Radio show in September 2022, Minaj proceeded to detail an alleged conversation with someone who, Minaj claimed, tried to get her to drink while she was pregnant and suggested she could have an abortion.

“Imagine telling someone that you didn’t want to drink because, at that moment, you were possibly pregnant. Because you were actively having a baby,” she said. “Imagine if that person said, ‘Oh girl, you can go to the clinic.’”

Nicki continued: “Imagine posting photos where you’re pregnant and the person doesn’t even like it or congratulate you. But then when you post that Beyoncé sent you flowers congratulating you, the person tried to send you flowers thinking, ‘Oh, I can take advantage of this opportunity,’ like she does with everyone else. “She will post the flowers.” “I didn’t even leave them shit in the damn house.”

When a fan relayed Minaj’s comments to Megan, she responded with an all-caps post on X (formerly known as Twitter), where she simply wrote, “LIE.”

On the same show, Minaj appeared to make several references to an emerging rapper she felt she had supported and defended, and then felt let down or betrayed.

March 2023: “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”

Minaj released a new song in March 2023, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” in which she appeared to take several jabs at her former collaborator, Megan.

Rapping over a sample of Lummidee’s 2003 hit, “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh),” he rapped: “700 on the horses when we get ready to leave / But I haven’t fucked with horses since Christopher Reeves.”

He later spit that “Dorito is mad because they didn’t pick” in an apparent reference to Megan’s song, “Flamin’ Hottie,” for a Super Bowl commercial for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and Doritos.

The most scathing lyric came when Minaj rapped, “That .40 caliber makes them dance like a go-go,” which appeared to be a cheeky nod to rapper Tory Lanez who shot Megan in the foot in a July 2020 incident. He was reportedly yelling, “Dance, bitch!” while she shot him.

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of first-degree assault, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and having a concealed and unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

January 2024: “Hiss” and “Big Foot”

The latest chapter in Megan and Minaj’s rocky relationship began when Megan released her latest single, “Hiss,” on Friday (Jan. 26).

The song begins with Megan declaring that she wants to “get this shit off my chest and let it rest,” before rapping the lines: “These hoes ain’t mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.” / I really don’t know what the problem is, but I guarantee you they don’t want me to start.”

Megan’s Law refers to the US federal law that requires information about registered sex offenders to be available to the public. For some, this line is a veiled comment directed at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender after pleading guilty to attempted rape by force or fear at age 16.

Just hours after the release of “Hiss,” Minaj went on a social media rant and previewed her song, “Big Foot,” a diss track for Megan. The song was released in its entirety on Monday (January 29), with notable lyrics such as: “Bad bitch, she like six feet, I call her, “Big Foot” / The bitch fell down, I said. , Get up on your good foot.”

In addition to probably referring to Megan’s height (5 feet 10 inches / 178 cm) and the fact that Tory Lanez shot her in the foot, Minaj also repeats the phrase: “Lying on your dead mom.” Megan’s mother, Holly Thomas, died in March 2019 from a brain tumor.

As of this writing, Megan has not acknowledged Minaj’s new release.
