Sports Illustrated stepped in to defend Brittany Mahomes on Instagram after a series of comments criticizing her for her swimsuit photo shoot in Belize.
The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a video of her shoot on Thursday and announced she would be joining Sports Illustrated as a swimsuit rookie.
Mahomes, 28, received mostly praise and praise at the news, but he still appears to be a divisive figure to some, and that led SI to weigh in on the comments on Instagram.
One fan wrote that they “just can’t sympathize with this lady” and another commented saying “cringe.”
But a different fan wrote that the haters “need to sit up and read about how amazing Brittany is” and that “some of you in the comments need to start uplifting women instead of tearing them down.”
Sports Illustrated commented under that saying: “I couldn’t have said it better.”
They also commented on a separate post in the comments saying, “it’s refreshing to see a woman defined by her accomplishments…great job to Brittney and SI for focusing on her JOB.”
SI responded: “A true inspiration to us all.”
In an interview with SI to accompany her announcement, Mahomes said, “I want women to feel empowered to always be themselves, love themselves, and feel confident in everything they do.”
‘Be confident in who you are and be unapologetically yourself. People will love you or hate you, but what really matters is finding your values and what makes you the best version of yourself.
“I want people to know that they can achieve anything, even things you never thought would be possible in your wildest dreams.”
Brittany is currently in Las Vegas ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl, where her husband Patrick is competing for his third title at just 28 years old.
They will face the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night.
