Apple announced offline availability of the $3,499 Vision Pro in US Apple Stores on February 2. Shortly after the launch, people were struggling with the question of the durability of the premium headphones. AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl put this to the test for a YouTube video. While he might think it is a fragile portable device, it turned out to be stronger than expected.
Kohl was the first to note that the magnetic Light Seal has a weak connection strength to the unit and recommends that users not hold it by that part. He then intentionally collides with various household items and ends up scratching the front glass. At first, the anchor was surprised by its durability.

Despite three drop tests (with a height of up to six feet in the third), the Vision Pro manages to survive the torture. But the right speaker stopped working after the fall. While subsequent drops did not cause significant damage to the glass, the area around the band suffered some wear induced by the drops and collisions. On the last eighth drop from about 10 to 12 feet high, the front glass of the headset finally broke.
However, the inner glass on the front, the cameras and the sensors on the headphones continued to work even after the relentless torture, Kohl claimed. Even after removing the front glass layer, the Vision Pro worked like new, apart from the damage marks on the outer and right speaker.

According to Apple’s support page, the estimated repair for the broken glass cover costs $799, and other damage can cost up to $2,399. Users can also use the AppleCare+ plan to reduce the cost to $299 for a single repair. However, the company said this is not the “final service fee,” meaning it may vary at the time of actual repairs.
