Kavita Chaudhary, star of the popular Doordarshan series udaan, He died in a hospital here after cardiac arrest Thursday night. She was 67 years old. The actor, also popular as housewife Lalita ji in Surf detergent advertisements in India in the late 80s, was admitted to the hospital a few days ago.

“She died after a cardiac arrest last night around 8.30 pm at Amritsar hospital. She was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to low blood pressure. Her condition became critical later,” Ajay Sayal, head of state, told PTI. Chaudhary’s nephew.

The last rites were performed here on Thursday morning. The actor is survived by Sayal and his niece.

Kavita Chaudhary was best known for her portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in Udaan, a progressive show on women empowerment, which ran on Doordarshan between 1989 and 1991.

In addition to starring, he wrote and directed the series, which was inspired by the life of his elder sister and police officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya.

Udaan, which also starred Shekhar Kapur, revolved around the struggle of a woman who aspired to be an IPS officer. The critically acclaimed show, which inspired a generation of women to take up public service, returned to Doordarshan for a repeat run during the pandemic.

Actor Amit Behl was one of the colleagues who expressed condolences on Chaudhary’s death. “RIP Kavita Chaudhary, es baar aapne lambi udaan bhar li, Naman @CintaaOfficial @nsd_india,” he wrote on X.
