Team India established a dominant position against the English team in the fourth Test in Ranchi on Sunday as the hosts need 152 runs to take a lead in the two-match series with two days left.

India, who scored 307 runs in reply to England’s score of 353 in the first innings, but then outscored the visitors for 145 runs in the second innings to take control of the tie.

Ravichandran Ashwin starred in scoring his fifty-fifth, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed four scalps.

During the innings, a moment of relief came thanks to captain Rohit Sharma’s comment when Sarfaraz Khan was fielding at a silly point without a helmet to protect his head.

The captain shouted, “Yes, hero nai banne ka” (Hey, don’t be a hero!) as he instructed the 26-year-old to wear his helmet, citing the proximity of his position to the batsman.

Ashwin removed England’s Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in consecutive deliveries in the fifth over to give the host an early break. He dismissed Joe Root soon after, before returning late in the innings to scalp the wickets of Ben Foakes and James Anderson to complete his fife.

The 37-year-old spinner is now tied with the legendary Anil Kumble for the number of five-wicket hauls. Only the legendary Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Richard Hadlee have achieved more fifes in the long history of the game.

Kuldeep Yadav sent Zak Crawley back to the hut after the Englishman made a half-century, shortly before dismissing England captain Ben Stokes back to the dugout with his clever turn.
