Alia Bhatt is headlining a film on YRF’s spy universe, the shooting of which will begin later this year, Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani said on Tuesday. (Read also: Shah Rukh Khan, Aditya Chopra lock script for Pathaan 2, set to begin production in late 2024: report)
The YRF spy universe is an ambitious franchise in which characters from different films will cross paths. Salman Khan-starrer Tiger, Hrithik Roshan-starrer War and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan are part of YRF’s spy universe.
YRF CEO confirms rumors
Speaking at FICCI Frames, Widhani called YRF’s spy universe “a financial and cultural juggernaut” and one of the studio’s most prized IPs.
“I will share the worst kept secret in the industry, which is that Alia Bhatt is spearheading a spy universe film and the schedule starts later this year… In fact, we are very excited and excited to have this IP in the studio “Widhani said, confirming reports about the actor’s casting.
“There are a lot of things that are going to come to the spy universe. We are going to see more and more films made under this theme. For now, I can only say that Alia Bhatt is spearheading a spy universe film,” he said.

Bhatt will be teaming up with Sharvari Wagh in the yet-untitled film. They will play super agents in the action entertainer.
The next film in YRF’s spy franchise is War 2, starring Roshan, NTR Jr and Kiara Advani. It will be directed by Ayan Mukerji. Pathaan 2 and Tiger vs Pathaan are also in the works.
Earlier, a source told Pinkvilla, “This is the twist in the YRF Spy Universe timeline: Pathaan 2 will come before Tiger vs Pathaan and will set up the clash of two cinematic legends on the big screen. Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan is definitely a character that has resonated with the audiences, and there is a constant demand from the audience to see more of SRK in the spy avatar. Soon after the release in January 2023, Adi and SRK decided to make Pathaan a standalone franchise also within the Spy Universe and the former started coming up with the sequel to this all-time blockbuster.
