Amy Schumer has been diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome. The comedian revealed her state of health during an appearance on “News, Not Noise” Newsletter by Jessica Yellinsaying the diagnosis has made her feel “reborn” after recent talk surrounding her more swollen face.
Cushing’s syndrome occurs when one has elevated levels of cortisol (the main stress hormone) within the body for a long time, according to the Mayo Clinic. Possible symptoms include weight gain, high blood pressure, and bone loss. Treatment may include medications, radiation therapy, or surgery.
The actress said she learned about her condition while promoting season 2 of her show. life and beth. During her various press appearances, fans began to wonder why she had a “puppier face,” and often flocked to her comments section on social media to ask about her health.
“While doing on-camera press for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines for four hours straight, with my veins closed from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I might not be around to see my son grow up.” . ” she said. “So finding out that I have the type of Cushing’s that will just clear up on its own and that I’m healthy was the best news imaginable.”
And while typically having the Internet “interfere” with your appearance isn’t helpful at all, Schrumer said the increased concern (and criticism) prompted her to take a deeper look at her health.
“It’s been a crazy couple of weeks for me and my family,” he said. “Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera for the internet to intervene. But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized something was wrong.”
Schumer said she decided to publicly reveal her condition because she wants to “advocate for women’s health.”
“The shame and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have dealt with and witnessed for a long time,” Schumer said. “I really want women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that generally doesn’t believe them.”
Schumer first responded to comments about her swollen face following appearances on Tonight’s show starring Jimmy Fallon and The view earlier this month. “Thank you so much for everyone’s comments about my face!” Schumer wrote on Instagram. “I have enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right, right now it’s more swollen than normal.”
In her opening statement, she added that she has endometriosis and that “there are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now, but I’m fine.”
