On April 30, Disney Home Entertainment will release four more of its streaming series on physical media, two from Lucasfilm and two from Marvel Studios.
“Star Wars: Andor – The Complete First Season”, “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi – The Complete Series”, “Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight: The Complete First Season” and “Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier : The Complete First Season” will be released individually on 4K UHD and Blu-ray in collectible packaging.
The news comes after Disney announced plans in February to turn over its manufacturing, distribution and marketing of physical media to Sony Pictures Entertainment. Although disc sales have steadily declined across the industry year over year, the overlap between 4k and Blu-ray disc collectors and fans of fantasy, sci-fi, and superhero genres remains significant. It’s this demographic that Disney Home Entertainment is targeting, with new covers, concept art cards, and metallic book packaging for all four titles.
In addition to feature films and documentaries, the releases of “Moon Knight” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” include scenes deleted from their series. Neither “Andor” nor “Obi-Wan Kenobi” includes deleted material, but a series of features explore the world-building of the former, while a director’s commentary by Deborah Chow caps off the making-of materials of the latter.
These titles mark the second series of collector’s editions from Disney Home Entertainment, following the 2023 release of “Loki Season 1,” “WandaVision,” and seasons one and two of “The Mandalorian.” All are currently available on the studio’s streaming service, Disney+, but since future seasons or sequels won’t arrive for some time (“Andor: Season 2” premieres in 2025, and “The Mandalorian” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will soon be seen on screen in the next few years) or not at all (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”), the sets and their extras are intended to give their fans a stopgap to help them out.
