Anne Hathaway credits Christopher Nolan for essentially saving her career amid the backlash she received online.

“Humiliation is a very difficult thing to endure,” Hathaway said. “The key is not to let that close you down. You have to be bold and it can be difficult because you think, ‘If I stay safe, if I embrace the environment, if I don’t draw too much attention to myself, it won’t hurt.’ But if you want to do that, don’t be an actor. You are a tightrope walker. You are a daredevil. You are asking people to invest their time, their money, their attention and their care in you. Then you have to give them something worth all those things. And if it doesn’t cost you anything, what are you really offering?
