Ariana Grande and Bowen Young couldn’t stay together during a sketch on Saturday night live tonight.
The couple gave life to songs that did not appear in the hit film. Red Moulin which included “Up Where We Belong,” originally sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker; “Do-Re-Mi” by Julie Andrews; TLC’s “Creep”; “Happy Birthday”; and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” by U2, among others.
While they made it through most of the sketch before breaking character, Yang began to lose focus while performing Shania Twain’s hit song, “Man! I feel like a woman!” He continued to have a fit of laughter as he and Grande sang “Happy Birthday” for the umpteenth time, prompting the latter to break character. It only gets worse when the comedian dunks the singer and tries to sing “I Will Always Love You”, originally sung by Dolly Parton but popularized by Whitney Houston when she sang the song in the film. One more “Happy Birthday” makes Yang laugh as he takes Grande with him before they both regain their composure and close the sketch with the final riff of “Defying Gravity” by Wickedgiving fans of the musical a taste of the upcoming film adaptation, in which Grande and Yang star.
