The A’s latest renderings come more than 10 months after they released the first design for their proposed stadium in Las Vegas, although the team later became dissatisfied with those initial plans.

Now the A’s hope the new design for a 33,000-seat ballpark on nine acres at the Tropicana site sticks.

“The collaboration between BIG’s creativity and HNTB’s technical expertise allows for a truly innovative and bold design, while ensuring an unmatched fan experience,” A’s owner John Fisher said in a statement released by the equipment. “We hope to contribute to the dynamic atmosphere and liveliness.” from the Las Vegas Strip, creating a welcoming environment for all of Southern Nevada.”

The A’s say the proposed stadium’s tiered design will “bring fans closer to the action,” which is a change from its current home, the Oakland Coliseum, which has a lot of foul territory.

Additionally, the roof design will open to the north, allowing fans to view the Las Vegas Strip and bring in natural light. The A’s say this will also limit exposure to the southern sun, keeping the scorching heat to a minimum.

“Our design for the A’s new home in Las Vegas is conceived in response to the city’s unique culture and climate,” Bjarke Ingels, founder and creative director of BIG, said in a statement. “Five pennant arches enclose the stadium, protecting it from the Nevada sun while opening it to the soft northern daylight. A giant window frames a majestic view of Strip life and the iconic New York New York hotel skyline. All direct sunlight is blocked, while all soft daylight is allowed to bathe the field in natural light.

“The resulting architecture is like a spherical armadillo, shaped by the local climate, while opening up and inviting the life of the Strip to enter and explore. “In Show City, the A’s ‘armadillo’ is designed to provide passive shade and natural light—the architectural response to Nevada’s climate that creates a new kind of vernacular icon in Las Vegas.”

While the A’s won a unanimous vote from MLB owners to move to Las Vegas and the Nevada legislature approved funding, obstacles remain before the team can begin construction on the stadium they hope to open in 2028.

Meanwhile, as the A’s try to build their new ballpark in Las Vegas, they have to figure out where to play during the 2025, 2026 and 2027 MLB seasons. While the team has explored playing in minor league stadiums in Sacramento or Elsewhere, they recently met with Oakland city and Alameda County officials to discuss a possible lease extension at the Coliseum.

It’s unclear at this time if the A’s will break ground on their proposed stadium in Las Vegas, but they hope the latest renderings are a big step toward moving to Sin City in the coming years.
