NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Audio recording of a pilot’s emergency call to the air traffic control tower revealed the plane suffered engine failure before crashing alongside the interstate in west Nashville.
All five people aboard the single-engine Piper-Saratoga plane died in the crash, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
On Monday, the pilot of the single-engine plane reported that he had engine failure and, as a result, was attempting an emergency landing at John C. Tune Airport. That landing never happened.
The plane lost altitude and then plummeted toward the shoulder area along I-40 near Charlotte Pike, just behind Costco.
Before the accident, Flight reported showed that a Piper Saratoga with tail number C-FBWH, which was registered outside of Canada, departed from Milton and then made stops in Erie, Pennsylvania, followed by Mount Sterling, Kentucky, which is where it was coming from when the accident occurred. .
