Ayo Edebiri apologizes for Jennifer Lopez podcast jokes

While hosting “Saturday Night Live” on February 3, Ayo Edebiri acknowledged the jokes she made in the past about Jennifer Lopez, who served as the episode’s musical guest.

In a game show sketch in which Kenan Thompson forced contestants to reckon with their rude social media presences, Edebiri nodded to the recently resurfaced comments and said, “Okay. We understand. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for influence, or speak badly on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid. But I think I speak for everyone when I say that from now on we will be much more thoughtful about what we post online.”

Edebiri appeared on a 2020 episode of “Scam Goddess,” in which host Laci Mosley said that “Lopez’s entire career is one long scam” and that the singer is unaware of the criticism people are giving her.

Edebiri responded: “Well, that’s the thing: she thinks she has several paths, but that’s not her. I think she thinks she’s still good, even though she doesn’t sing on most of these songs.”

“A lot of song writers will say, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to get to the studio,’” he continued. “Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.”

López did not appear in any sketch during the episode, but was alongside Edebiri in a promo released before the episode. “I love your show,” López says, and Edebiri responds, “I love everything about it.”
