Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Reteam for Crime Thriller ‘Animals’ – The Hollywood Reporter

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up once again, this time for a new crime thriller that has just landed on Netflix.

Affleck will direct animals, which will star Damon. It could be filming in Los Angeles in March, if all the pieces fall into place.

The secret project operated under several titles: The animals of Los Angeles and Be gentlemen — just before landing animals.

Written by Connor McIntyre with revisions by Billy Ray, the crime thriller follows a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. Surrounded by numerous enemies, political and otherwise, husband and wife have no choice but to get their hands dirty to save their son.

Affleck and Damon will produce through Artists Equity along with the company’s Dani Bernfeld. Also producing are RedBird Capital Partners’ Gerry Cadinale, Brad Weston and Collin Creighton through their MakeReady banner. Fifth Season, the production, sales and distribution company formerly known as Endeavor Content, will also produce. The company developed the project in collaboration with MakeReady.

Best friends and longtime collaborators, Affleck and Damon have worked together for decades. However, just in the last few years they launched Artists Equity, their artist-run studio that seeks to financially reward all participants in a film. His first film was last year’s acclaimed drama, Air, the story of how Sonny Vaccaro changed the fortunes of shoemaker Nike by signing a young Michael Jordan. Affleck directed the Amazon film that Damon headlined.

Damon has a key part of the Manhattan Project in Christopher Nolan’s film oppenheimer and will be seen in Ethan Coen’s lesbian road movie. Dolls to wearwhich Focus Features opens on February 23.
