Black Viewers Have Hilariously Bad Reactions to ‘Mea Culpa’

Tyler Perry He is one of Hollywood’s most prolific writers and directors, often working on multiple projects at once. Unfortunately, quality seems to be the first victim of his endless factory of movies and television series. The Madea filmmaker’s latest big misstep is the Netflix movie “Tyler Perry’s Mea Culpa,” a legal thriller starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes. It premiered on February 23rd and the internet immediately thought how absolutely horrible it was.

The film follows Mea (Rowland), a lawyer who defends Zyair (Rhodes) in a murder trial. As she deals with her marriage in ruins and the case progresses, Mea soon finds herself seduced by the charming and sexy artist. However, that’s where things stop making sense, as the story soon takes a turn through several ridiculous and unnecessary twists until reaching a pointless ending that makes everyone look stupid.

After going through this crazy mess, black people thought again about the entertainment Perry provides and why we allow him to continue getting away with these crimes against good storytelling.

When it comes to Perry’s distinctive style, a tiktok user He noted that “it’s like you put an idea in your head and put it directly into production, without editing, without thinking, without trying to discover plot holes.”

They are not wrong. There is an easy convenience to his plots that means things happen only because they have to. The story doesn’t come to a proper conclusion or surprise the viewer with anything substantial. In fact, “Mea Culpa” seems like it’s actually two movies tied together somehow into one crazy story.

To be clear, no one blames the incredible Rowland for this mess. She did what she could with what she was given. Unfortunately, he was given a burnt film in a dumpster and told to make it work.

Someone on TikTok He emphatically stated that Perry “must pay” for how offensive this movie is, because it is much worse than the bad wigs his series became known for.

Other tiktok user I wasn’t even sure I could finish the movie after watching only 25 minutes because the characters were too awesome.

“That ‘Mea Culpa’ movie was bad. Really bad”. wrote a user in Xbecause sometimes the simplest reviews are the best.

One person on writing“I wish the discussion about ‘Mea Culpa’ meant people wouldn’t see his next movie, but it doesn’t, so it will happen again in a few months.”

Perry has become so rich, powerful and successful that he has no motivation to change his ways. He will continue to offer black audiences the lowest form of entertainment, because that creative style has made him a multi-millionaire. It doesn’t help that Hollywood keeps offering him blank checks to do whatever he wants. The only way the public can really let him know what he thinks is with his wallets. However, at this point, even that seems like a long shot.

In case you’re a glutton for punishment, or just want to make a decision, “Tyler Perry’s Mea Culpa” is now streaming on Netflix.
