Blackpink Jennie’s ‘biggest enemy’ is…; Slow-motion collaboration timeline upsets fans

The collaborative effort from Blackpink’s Jennie and former Brockhampton member Matt Champion took flight with great success on March 8. The sudden reveal of the special project by the surprise duo may have come out of nowhere. However, that still wasn’t the wrecking ball that ended the K-pop star’s fandom; was the revelation of how long it took for this song to finally become public. Following the release of Slow Motion on music platforms, Jennie Kim took to her Instagram to post surprising news, revealing that the pair worked on this song three years ago.

The caption of Jennie’s Instagram post reads: “I can’t believe this beautiful song is finally out 🌒 This one is close to my heart and I’m so excited to share its message with all of you. “Matt and I worked on this song 3 years ago and I hope you enjoy it as we share a part of ourselves.” Slow Motion is her first independent artist musical project since she abandoned her exclusive solo contract with YG Entertainment. Although she will continue to treat her fans to more Blackpink music with her bandmates in the future, she plans to expand her solo musical endeavors through her recently launched agency, Odd Atelier.

Reactions to Blackpink Jennie’s Slow Motion Collaboration:

As always, the members of Blackpink only have to move an inch and they begin to trend on social networks, deservedly so. Therefore, fans not liking his content is completely out of the question. While initial reactions were filled with deeply loving reviews for the song, Jennie’s eventual disclosure about how long it took for the song to come out even though she had already worked on it shook fans greatly.

As soon as the post hit the social media platform, fans were quick to take up arms against Jennie’s former record label, YG Entertainment. “3 years ago? I guess YG is your biggest enemy, how come they didn’t let such a great song come out???” An instant response came. Another fan found it difficult to accept that this song was made three years ago. Jumping on the YG hate bandwagon, one Instagram user commented: “REASON 1080 WHY I TELL YG REALLY THE STOP!!!”

Regardless of their love for the Blackpink members, the group’s fans have long been against YG Entertainment’s handling of the musical act. In 2023, when news broke that the quartet were parting ways with YG to pursue their respective solo projects, fans didn’t hold back or sugarcoat their reactions by calling it the “best possible outcome.”

Jennie’s Slow Motion is a dreamy love ballad that will leave fans moist-eyed. Notably, she shared her public appearance with Matt Champion at Coachella 2023, when her K-pop group headlined the music festival. However, now the case seems to be a little different. They must have known each other well enough for the song to be produced three years ago. The Solo hitmaker has also been in the news lately for attending the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week 2024 on March 5.
