The BMW iX has just received a new top-spec variant called ‘xDrive50’, priced at Rs 1.4 crore (ex-showroom India). It is priced higher by Rs 19 lakh over the already available entry-level xDrive40 variant. The top-of-the-range xDrive50 has a larger battery and more powerful motor, thus improving performance as well as the claimed range.

Design and features

The design of the new variant remains more or less the same as the existing xDrive40 variant. However, the range-topping xDrive50 features 22-inch alloy wheels as standard.

In terms of features, you get a 12.3-inch digital driver display, 14.9-inch information system, 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charging, and a panoramic glass roof.

Its safety net comprises a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and blind spot detection.

Performance

The BMW iX xDrive50 features a larger 111.5 kWh battery that offers a WLTP-certified range of 635 km. It is paired with two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear, making it an AWD system. It produces 523 HP and 765 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

Charging

The iX xDrive50 supports fast charging up to 195 kW.

195 kW DC charger – 10% – 80% in 35 min

50 kW DC charger – 10% – 80% in 97 min

22 kW AC charger: 100% in approximately 5.5 hours

11 kW AC charger: 100% in approximately 11 hours

The BMW iX xDrive50 takes on the Mercedes EQE SUV, the Jaguar I-Pace and the Audi Q8 e-tron.
