The launch of Siddharth Anandthe long-awaited film ‘Fighter’, starring Hrithik RoshanDeepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, has reached the end of its first week at the box office and going by the numbers, the film has apparently failed to live up to expectations.
Despite the director’s previous successes with ‘War‘ and the Shahrukh Khan protagonist’Pathan‘, ‘Fighter’ began its box office run off to a rather slow start. The film grossed approximately Rs 22 crore on day 1 and saw a small rise in collections over the weekend. However, on Monday the film saw a significant drop in numbers and didn’t seem to pick up pace on Tuesday.
The box office performance of ‘Fighter’ led audiences to make comparisons between the film’s collections and director Anand’s previous works, particularly the record-breaking ‘Pathaan’. ‘Fighter’ has fallen behind by a significant margin, falling 60% to 65% short.
The film, which has a total collection of Rs 134.25 crore, is expected to complete its first week at the box office with an estimated over Rs 140 crore.
Siddharth Anand’s attempt to replicate the success of ‘War’ and ‘Pathaan’ has proven challenging, leaving the film staring at a below-normal collection of Rs 180 crore nett in domestic markets.
Hrithik Roshan and Siddharth Anand’s once promising collaboration has failed to recreate the magic that captivated audiences in their previous projects.
Meanwhile, at the global box office, the film crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in its opening weekend. Monday’s overseas receipts approached $400,000, bringing the film’s total overseas gross to more than $7 million.
According to latest reports, the film may release in the UAE after it was banned for some controversial comments.
