Spies are good at keeping secrets, and apparently, that also applies to the actors who play the spies.

While appearing in Tonight’s show starring Jimmy Fallon, Donald Glover revealed that Brad Pitt wasn’t particularly helpful in a conversation they had about Glover starring in a new TV adaptation of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

“He didn’t give me any real advice,” Glover said. “He got out of it.

Glover could certainly use some guidance, as he also admitted to Fallon that before joining the spy thriller, he had never seen the 2005 film. “I hadn’t at the time,” he said. “I’ve seen it, obviously, now. It would be terrifying if I hadn’t. I’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s what it’s about? Spies?'”

When the project came around, Glover decided he should probably see the film, although he had reservations due to his general lack of love for remakes. But after watching it and talking about it with his brother, he realized that it was actually just a good dating movie. “It’s just a relationship, but with spies,” he reflected.

Glover and his co-star Maya Erskine were also flying a bit blind to each other, considering they had never met in person before filming began. “We didn’t do a chemistry reading or anything,” said the actor.

Still, both found this useful, as the new Prime video series reinvents the action to revolve around two spies who are forced into new identities in an arranged marriage. “I feel like the awkwardness that was supposed to be there was ripe,” Glover joked.

The eight episodes of Mr and Mrs Smith It will be out on February 2nd. Watch the video to learn more from Glover and Erskine.
