The debate over the BCCI removing Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from their central contract will not end soon. The duo were penalized after missing their respective state teams’ Ranji Trophy games. There were some reports suggesting that after missing domestic cricket, Iyer attended the practice session of his IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. This news reportedly irked the selectors, leading to Iyer’s exclusion from the central contract. Recently, former Australian player Brad Hogg lashed out at the KKR captain for not turning out for the state team.

Hogg, who was also part of KKR in 2016, stated that a player must be like Virat Kohli if he needs a break from domestic cricket.

“If you have time to play domestic cricket, you have to do it. For Iyer, you can’t just go and practice with your franchise as I have heard rumors that that has happened. You have to go back to the state team. “If you don’t play national international cricket, you have to play state cricket, unless you are Virat Kohli, who has played a lot of cricket throughout the year and really needs a break to rejuvenate,” Hogg said in his Youtube channel.

Iyer was unavailable for Mumbai’s Ranji quarter-final against Baroda after being excluded from the Indian team after the second Test against England. He, however, played in Mumbai’s Ranji semi-final against Tamil Nadu.

Amidst all this debate, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Mumbai for reaching their 48th Ranji Trophy final.

“When Indian players show up for their national teams, it increases the quality of the game for youngsters and sometimes new talent is identified. It also gives national players the opportunity to sometimes rediscover the basics. With players top players participating in domestic tournaments, more Over time, fans will also start following and supporting their national teams much more. Great to see @BCCI giving the same priority to domestic cricket,” Sachin tweeted.

“The Ranji Trophy semi-finals have been fascinating! @MumbaiCricAssoc’s march to the final was helped by a brilliant batting comeback, while the other semi-final is up for grabs going into the final day – Madhya Pradesh need 90 runs to win , Vidarbha. We need 4 wickets,” Tendulkar added.

Apart from Iyer, Kishan did not feature for Jharkhand during the team’s entire Ranji Trophy campaign despite not being on national duty after quitting the tour of South Africa in December due to personal reasons. Instead, he focused on preparing for the IPL for his franchise Mumbai Indians.
