NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Country music artist and Murfreesboro native Chris Young was arrested at a Nashville bar Monday night after he allegedly assaulted a Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) agent.

According to court documents, Young, 38, was at a bar on Demonbreun Street around 8:30 p.m. when TABC officers entered to complete a compliance check. Young reportedly held her ID over her head and a TABC agent verified it with the agency’s ID app.

The officer gave Young his identification and returned with the other officers to continue checking personnel’s ABC license cards.

Young began questioning the officers, who answered his questions, and then began videotaping them, according to an affidavit. Officers reportedly left that bar and walked through Demonbreun to another bar to conduct further compliance checks.

Once TABC agents checked the staff cards, they began walking toward the door when Young “reached out with his hands to prevent me from leaving the bar and hit me.” [sic] Me on the shoulder,” according to the TABC agent.

The officer pressured Young “to create distance” and then bar patrons got between the officer and Young and began “yelling and screaming,” an affidavit says. Another officer attempted to speak with Young, who allegedly began walking backwards and did not comply with the officers’ commands.

According to arrest documents, two officers had to physically detain Young and handcuff him. When officers attempted to leave the bar with Young, several people who were with Young allegedly began following them and “making the incident hostile.”

Officers noticed Young’s eyes were bloodshot and watery and he was slurring his speech.
