Christian Horner, the boss of Red Bull Racing and one of the stars of the hit Netflix documentary series Drive to survive, is facing an internal investigation by the F1 team’s parent company after the group received allegations about its conduct towards a female colleague.
Red Bull has launched an investigation after the Dutch newspaper by Telegraaf reported that Horner had been accused of “inappropriate behavior,” citing people familiar with the matter.
Horner rejects the allegations, which have not been described in detail.
“I completely deny these claims,” Horner told outlets such as he guardian and the bbc.
Red Bull confirmed to several media outlets that it had launched an internal investigation into the allegations against Horner.
“After learning of certain recent allegations, the company launched an independent investigation,” a Red Bull spokesperson said. Fortune. “This process, which is already underway, is being carried out by an external specialist lawyer.
“The company takes these matters very seriously and the investigation will be completed as soon as possible. “It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
London Times Chief sports editor Owen Slot says he was told by an “acquaintance in F1” that it would be “a considerable surprise if Horner survived this”.
Horner’s path to success
Horner has been in charge of Red Bull Racing since its creation in 2005, after the drinks company bought Jaguar, where Horner was previously boss.
He is the longest-serving team manager among the 10 current F1 constructors.
Under Horner, the F1 team has had a remarkable run of success since a controversial victory in 2021 helped star driver Max Verstappen take the title from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
The team won 21 of a possible 22 races last year, taking the Constructors’ Championship, while Verstappen won the Drivers’ Championship. Verstappen scored a record 10 consecutive wins last season.
As investments have flowed into F1 in recent years, Red Bull Racing has risen to a valuation of $2.6 billion, according to Forbes.
Horner became better known after the release of the Netflix series. Drive to survivewhich showed his fights with rival team principals, including Mercedes’ Toto Wolff.
He also documented his marriage to Geri Halliwell, a former Spice Girl whom he married in 2015.
The new F1 season will begin in early March, where Red Bull and Verstappen are expected to once again lead the standings.
In October last year it was reported that Horner had been in an alleged dispute with Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, prompting Verstappen to assure the media that neither would be leaving.
