Christina Applegate shares more heartbreaking details about her battle with multiple sclerosis.
during a wednesday appearance on “Good Morning America” Christina Applegate, 52, and her friend, “Sopranos” alum Jamie-Lynn Sigler, 42, sat down with Robin Roberts.
“My symptoms started in early 2021 and I literally felt tingling in my toes,” Applegate said.
“And when we started filming in the summer of that same year, they took me to the set in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk that far,” she added, referring to her Netflix show “Dead To Me,” which aired for three seasons on Netflix, from 2019 to 2022.
Applegate revealed that she had been diagnosed with MS in 2021 while filming that series.
In 2022 interview with varietyApplegate spoke about being diagnosed with the disease while in the middle of filming.
“I didn’t know what was happening to me,” he said. “That January, my toes went numb and I ignored it. The balls of my feet went numb and I ignored it. Suddenly, I fell. People said, ‘Oh, it’s just neuropathy.’ At that time they had to take me to the set in a wheelchair because I couldn’t walk if the set was far away. I was sleeping all the time and gained 40 pounds – a lot of things happened.”
The “The Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” star said during Wednesday’s “GMA” interview that he believes he may have had MS for up to seven years before he was officially diagnosed.
Sometimes his legs gave out, he said.
“I really put it off because I’m tired, or I’m dehydrated, or it’s the weather. And then nothing happened for months and I didn’t pay attention.”
Applegate described living with MS as “kind of hell” and said she found herself “isolating” at home as a way of coping with the difficulties of the disease. “They call it the invisible disease. It can be very lonely, because it’s hard to explain to people,” Applegate said.
“I’m in unbearable pain, but I’ve gotten used to it.” . . Right now I’m isolated. That’s how I’m dealing with it, which is to say, not going anywhere, because I don’t want to. It’s hard.”
Amid her health battle, Applegate has taken a step back from acting, but “Married. . . With Children” made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards in January.
The actress was emotional when she received a standing ovation from the crowd after joining host Anthony Anderson on stage.
While taking the stage in a red dress and walking with a cane, Applegate joked that her body “wasn’t Ozempic.”
Applegate revealed in her “GMA” interview that she barely remembers her Emmy appearance.
“I fainted,” the former “Friends” guest star said.
“People were like, ‘Oh, you were so funny,’ and I was like, ‘I don’t even know what I said.’ I don’t know what he was doing.’ “I got so scared that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore,” he continued. “And I felt really loved, and it was a beautiful thing.”
In February 2023, Applegate said that her then-recent appearance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards would likely mark the last awards ceremony she attended.
She told the Los Angeles Times at the time: “It’s probably my last awards show as an actor, so it’s a big deal.”
Applegate, who married her second husband, Dutch musician Martyn LeNoble, in 2013, and has a 12 year old daughter, sadie, he told the people In an interview published Wednesday, “My daughter had to deal with the loss of her mother, in the same way that I was a mother with her. Dancing with her every day. Pick her up from school every day. Working at her school, working at the library. Be present, out of the house, out of my bed. “She doesn’t see those things anymore.”
She continued: “If you walk into my room and see that I’m lying on my side, you know you can’t ask me to do anything. And that breaks me. Because I love making things for my son. I love preparing food for him and bringing it to him, but sometimes I can’t. But I try. I try.”
Sigler also has MS, and the two actresses told the outlet that their mutual friend, former *NSYNC member Lance Bass, put them in touch.
“If I didn’t have it, I wouldn’t be able to do this in life,” Applegate said.
