DI Women’s Divisions Power Rankings

DI Women’s Division Discussion

  • A new. Number. One. UBC tops the standings after winning the Northwest Challenge. As much as UNC’s loss to Carleton (you can see the results in how the top four is organized) is a factor, UBC earned the honor with an impressive performance.
  • The discussion about what to do with No. 2 was intense in the offices, but the most recent results prevailed: Carleton jumped to No. 2 and UNC fell to No. 3. While they have the season total against Carleton, you can’t erase from your mind that key victory.
  • At Centex, UT Dallas disappointed and without any other really solid results to back them up, they fell well short of the cutoff. They were joined in falling out of the rankings by Utah, who suffered losses to UTD and Ohio State. Meanwhile, Centex finalist Brown and the aforementioned Fever were pushed to the bottom two spots.

DI Men’s Division Power Rankings

DI Men’s Division Discussion

  • Like all of this week’s changes, the results come from the men’s side of Centex. TUFF’s disappointing victories, including a late comeback against Texas A&M, caused them to fall. BYU moved up, especially with a one-point loss to Texas, bringing the duo closer together.
  • Illinois stormed through the rankings with a standout performance, defeating Northeastern (and knocking them out of the top 25) and reaching the Centex final before the event was canceled due to weather. Could they be GL’s favorites heading into the postseason?

D-III Women’s Division Power Rankings

D-III Women’s Division Discussion

  • How the powerful fall. Middlebury won only two of its games in its first tournament of the season, suffering heavy losses to Brown, Central Florida and Colorado State. One of those wins was against #6 Colorado College in the 11th-place game, but Zenith’s 5-3 exit, with each loss by two points or less, was more impressive to the committee than a universal point loss to The Pranksters.
  • Fellow Centex assistants Trinity earned their first win of the season over region rivals Rice. And then the second. As a result, Altitude jumped two points to move above Rice.
  • Whitman is 0-5 in the Northwest Challenge and improves his ranking. It’s all-time D-III material. But seriously, despite losing all of their games, the Sweets held their own against DI’s top talent, playing with their full roster all weekend. They will only be more of a threat when facing D-III competition.

D-III Men’s Division Power Rankings

Men’s Division D-III Discussion

  • Ave Maria Gyrenes is on a bit of a Cinderella run. They backed up an undefeated game in the Florida Warm Up with a near win in the Tally Classic tournament, losing at Universe in pool play and then again to Central Florida in the finals. They have risen six spots, the biggest rise in any division.
  • Colorado College showed they still have some spice in the Men’s Centex, taking Michigan State into the universe and handily knocking off LSU and Iowa State.
  • Davenport is back in the standings after easily making it to the finals of the Grand Rapids College Invite. A close loss to Michigan (10-8) barely tarnished a weekend in which they finished above fellow #16 Oberlin, with better results against common opponents.

Ultiworld subscribers, we present the enemy’s case against each ranked team. I hope you like spices (it’s all fun). Get those bulletin boards ready!
