“Bruceeeee!” – Or Ellen DeGeneres?
Bruce Springsteen appeared at his first show in months looking unrecognizable and a bit like Tilda Swinton.
Dressed in a half-buttoned red flannel and dark jeans, the “Born to Run” musician, 74, returned to a tour in Phoenix, Arizona, on Tuesday after postponing shows due to his peptic ulcer disease.
Springsteen’s once toned and tanned upper body appeared paler than usual, and he sported completely white hair and a rather pale complexion.
Several X (formerly Twitter) users were horrified by the singer’s appearance.
“That’s Tilda Swinton”, a person commented.
“I’m not even trying to be funny when I say I thought it was Megan Rapinoe,” he said. second person saidin reference to the former USWNT winger who retired in November 2023 after an injury.

Tuesday’s show at the Footprint Center marked the first time the “Born in the USA” singer has performed alongside the E Street Band since September 2023. At the time, Springsteen announced he would postpone shows after being diagnosed with a peptic ulcer. .

“Phoenix, first I want to apologize if there was any inconvenience because we had to change the show last time,” Springsteen told the irritated crowd. “I hope we haven’t caused you too much inconvenience.”
Springsteen’s world tour has been plagued by various medical complications since it was announced in May 2022.
In March, while on tour in Albany, the New Jersey native was forced to postpone two of his shows after issuing a statement saying the cancellation had been caused “due to illness.”
The following month, both Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, who was notably absent from Tuesday’s show, contracted COVID-19 and were forced to suspend performances.
Springsteen once again postponed two shows in Philadelphia, this time just hours before the show was set to begin, after he reportedly “fell ill.”
The 20-time Grammy winner finally revealed in September that he was “being treated for peptic ulcer symptoms.”
“Here at E Street, we are heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” read a statement on their Instagram on September 27. “We’ve had a great time at our US shows and look forward to seeing more.” Good times. We will be back soon. Love and God bless you all, Bruce.”
Ultimately, Springsteen canceled his remaining 2023 dates.
“Bruce Springsteen has continued to steadily recover from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment for the remainder of the year based on doctor’s advice.” read an Instagram post. “With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining dates on Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2023 tour will be postponed until 2024.”
Springsteen would later call his encounter with the illness a “monster” and stated that it was “shaking my inner world.”
The singer, who also just lost his mother to Alzheimer’s disease, thanked his fans for their well wishes and said he couldn’t “wait to see you all next year.”
In November, Steven Van Zandt, one of Springsteen’s guitarists, stated that Springsteen was in “excellent shape.”
“We will come back stronger than ever in March,” said Van Zandt, 73. People during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
“It was a very, very intense first six months of touring, maybe the most intense in our history,” he continued. “And then we’ll come back with the same intensity, and it will be great.”
The nine-month tour will currently hit 17 countries across 52 dates before wrapping Nov. 22 in Vancouver.
