Country Music World Stunned When Star Couple Splits

The country music world was stunned Wednesday by reports that stars Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires have filed for divorce.

The couple has been together for 11 years and has an 8-year-old daughter, Mercy.

PEOPLE reported that Isbell, 45, and Shires, 41, actually filed for divorce on December 15. The site called the pair a “musical force,” noting that Shires is a backup singer and violinist in Isbell’s band. band, and Isbell plays guitar for her group, “The Highwomen.”

“This hurts my heart a little, I must say.” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter, in response to the Rolling Stone article about the split. “Wishing you both peace and happiness.”

“Awww that sucks,” wrote another. “They were a true American power couple.”

“I’m….Actually, legitimately surprised,” wrote another.

And there were many more comments like that on social media after the reports.

That said, according to PEOPLE, the two have been open about marital problems in the past and even included it in a documentary, “Running With Our Eyes Closed,” back in 2023.
