Demi Lovato made her fans cringe afterwards a video of her singing her 2013 song “Heart Attack” at an American Heart Association (AHA) event this week circulated on social media.
The singer, who also uses they pronouns, performed her popular song at the AHA’s annual Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection concert, which aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, on Wednesday night.
Fans thought the song choice was strange, especially for someone who suffered three strokes and a heart attack during a near-fatal overdose in 2018, and expressed their confusion online.
“Well, that’s a little dark, don’t you think?” one X user asked other fans.
“She didn’t think this through,” assumed a second critic.
Another added: “I can’t (really) stop laughing…how many people went through the decision of choosing the song before she performed it live?”
Others labeled his performance “crazy” and “wild.”

However, an inside source told Page Six on Friday that performing “Heart Attack” was a strategic move for Lovato and was even encouraged by the AHA.
“After Demi’s heart attack and near-death experience, for a few years, Demi thought she wouldn’t be able to sing ‘Heart Attack,'” the source explained.
Lovato feels she has been able to “reclaim” the song, the source added.
The “Camp Rock” star also preceded her performance on a significant note.
“While my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love and having your heart broken, opening up, taking risks, and not being afraid to do it again, this song has many parallels to me, my journey, and a reminder. For all of us in the room, how strong the mind-heart-body connection really is,” she stated.
Another witness told Page Six that those attending the event were enjoying the show and did not appear to be offended by the song choice.
After taking the stage, Lovato took to her Instagram Story to share her enthusiasm for the cause. by ABC News.
“Tonight is about reminding women how important it is to stand up for ourselves and prioritize our health,” she wrote.
“Join me, @american_heart and @goredforwomen as we go red for women!”
lovato appeared on the program “Hoy” Friday morning to discuss the event and spoke about how his life has changed through his hardships and heartbreaks and after his heart attack.
“I feel happier than ever,” she said enthusiastically.
“I feel like I’m in a really fantastic place, spiritually and emotionally too. “Not only am I in love, but I am also very mentally strong.”
The “Confident” singer got engaged to musician Jutes after a year of dating in December 2023.
