Donald Trump has even further Chosen words for Jimmy Kimmel.
In a Sunday appearance on Fox News’ Buzz Media, the former president addressed the viral moment at the Oscars earlier this month where Kimmel, who was the host, practically paused the ceremony to read Trump’s scathing “review” out loud to the entire audience. (Adding, for good measure: “I’m surprised you’re still awake. Isn’t your time in jail already over?”)
Prompted by Fox host Howard Kurtz, Trump took a moment to delight in his own post on TruthSocial (“I said some other pretty good things”) before attacking Kimmel.
“Jimmy Kimmel is… he hits me every night,” the former president complained. “I guess his ratings are terrible. He’s not a talented guy. I hear him hit me all the time. Then I thought about hitting him because I thought he was a terrible host.”
For anyone keeping score at home, Kimmel’s late-night show, on which Trump is certainly a frequent and easy target, is doing well in the ratings. frequently beating out competitors like Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert. His Oscar also recorded a record audience, with Nielsen inform This week 19.5 million people tuned in, the highest number in four years.
Trump said he “never expected” Kimmel to take his place on stage, especially right before “the big one,” referring to the presentation of the best picture award, the night’s top award.
“He reads exactly what you read,” Trump told Kurtz. “And now the big story is that everyone begged him not to do it. ‘Do not do it.’ Probably…stupidly, you know, he had to act in a short period of time, like minutes, right?
Kimmel claimed after last Sunday’s ceremony that organizers had begged him not to read Trump’s words. “They said, ‘You have a little time,’ and I said, ‘I’m reading Trump’s tweet,’” he told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. “And they said, ‘No, no, don’t read that.’ (I was like) ‘Yes, I am.'”
“I said, ‘This guy is even dumber than I thought,’” Trump recalled of his reaction to the moment. “The thing went viral. “It’s already spread all over the world and all I had to do was keep my mouth shut.”
