Elon Musk contacted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella via text message to address his concerns about the new Windows laptop he recently purchased. Musk revealed this in a post on X, after a user suggested he contact Nadella for “customer support.”

Musk texted Nadella directly, highlighting his discomfort with the mandatory requirement for a Microsoft account on Windows PCs. In a post on X, Musk expressed concern about the potential access this grants to Microsoft’s AI and questioned the need for the account for basic functionality.

The Tesla CEO also suggested that Microsoft has the ability to turn off your computer. “But since they now require that you use their services only to use your computer, @Microsoft You can effectively shut down your computer!

Musk’s comments sparked discussions on social media, with some users echoing his concerns about data privacy and the potential influence of AI. However, others noted that creating a Microsoft account is standard practice for Windows PCs, offering features such as cloud storage, app downloads, and system updates. Musk’s post prompted many people to offer him alternative solutions. Interestingly, one was via the Community Notes of X’s ‘fact-check’ feature. “It’s still possible to set up the latest version of Windows without a Microsoft account,” the Community Notes suggest. Musk responded by pointing out that the fact-checking tool was actually wrong. “Community Notes is failing here. “This option no longer exists,” Musk said.

However, after a series of tweets, Musk revealed that he could access his Windows laptop without having to create a Microsoft account. One user suggested a solution that Musk tested and then posted on X. “I finally did it, thanks. The laptop automatically connected to a local WiFi that had no password without asking. I was able to skip once I unselected that,” Musk posted.
