“It was a lot,” Butler said. “I was just trying to remember who I was. I was trying to remember what I liked to do. The only thing I thought about was Elvis for three years.” He added: “I had a dialect coach just to help me not sound like Elvis in that movie.”
Butler dove into Elvis’ voice files.
“I would listen to him say a certain word and cut out just that part to find out how he said that word,” Butler said. “I created my own file of how he said each word and each diphthong, and the way he used musicality in his voice.”
Butler’s performance as Elvis earned him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.
