Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez was forced off with 20 minutes left in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag confirmed that Lisandro Martínez has suffered a “very serious” injury in what is a hard blow for Manchester United.
The Argentine defender was forced to make way 20 minutes before the end of the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday after trying and failing to play despite the pain.
The centre-back was caught on the knee by West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal and limped down the tunnel after breaking through and being replaced by Raphael Varane.
Ten Hag said: “Lisandro Martínez’s injury is not looking good. It is very bad for him. We wish all the best for Licha. It is also very bad for the team. It seems bad. We have to wait and make the correct diagnosis. In this We are very sad right now.”
“Let’s hope he’s not too bad, but we can only pray. It looks like he’ll have to miss some games injured again.” And he added: “I can’t give you the details.
“We have to know in the next few days what the diagnosis is. He has just returned. It is very important for us. He brings spirit to the team, in addition to his football ability.”
Martinez recently returned from injury after the defender spent months on the sidelines with a foot problem.
