An uproar over an expensive cheeseburger and fries at Five Guys is causing a stir on social media, puzzling many as to why the combo nearly cost one customer $25.

TO user account in X the popular fast food restaurant exposed by posting a receipt it found on Reddit that showed a cheeseburger, by itself, cost $12.49.

“Five Guys prices are out of control,” wrote the X user. “$24 per person.”

The receipt showed an order for a bacon cheeseburger priced at $12.49, a soft drink priced at $2.89, and fries priced at $5.19, all worth $21.91.

And even more striking was a tip seen on the receipt for $2.19.

Other users focused their anger on the tip.

“What are you tipping for anyway?” someone questioned.

“Five Guys is order and pay at the restaurant counter. Why is a tip included? said another.

As inflation continues to rattle the country and Americans’ wallets, rising prices at fast food restaurants have attracted significant national attention.

A couple went viral after sharing their money-saving hack on how to beat inflation-era prices at Five Guys.

“Next time you’re at Five Guys, order a double cheeseburger with all the fixings,” says the couple named @nateandsaraheats. revealed in a clip on TikTok, which was viewed more than 222,000 times.

The couple named Nate and Sarah then let viewers in on a little secret by instructing them to start ordering an extra bun on the side in order to turn it into two single cheese burgers.

They then showed firsthand how to turn a double burger into two single cheeseburgers, while taking the two burgers and transferring them to the second bun.

“That’s two meals for less than half the price of buying them separately,” they said.

And just last week, Wendy’s was forced to clarify its Uber-style “dynamic pricing” ad, which said the cost of menu items will fluctuate throughout the day based on demand.

The term was used in relation to Uber’s model of raising fares when demand increases, however a Wendy’s spokesperson scaled back the announcement.

“To clarify, Wendy’s will not be implementing price gouging, which is the practice of raising prices when demand is highest,” Heidi Schauer said.

He added that “there are no plans to do that and we would not increase prices when our customers visit us more.”
