Former JNU student Shehla Rashid applauds film ‘Article 370’, says ‘the inside story of the bloodless…’

Shehla Rashid, former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), praised the film Article 370 and said that the film tells the inside story of the bloodless removal of Article 370 without creating discord.

Shehla Rashid has been an outspoken critic of the Modi government’s decision to revoke the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, as well as its subsequent division into two Union Territories. Despite her initial involvement, the former vice-president of the JNU Students Union later removed her name from the list of petitioners. However, last year he surprised many by praising the Modi-led government at the Center and the lieutenant governor for his efforts to improve the human rights situation in the region.

Coming back to the film, as the Lok Sabha elections are just a few months away, many termed the film as propaganda of the ruling party. Talking about this, actor Yami Gautam said that there is no point in justifying the intention of his film to people who already have a preconceived idea. Recently, Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a rally in Jammu, also endorsed the film and said that the upcoming film on Article 370 will be helpful for people to get correct information. “I don’t know what the film is about, but I heard on TV yesterday that a film on Article 370 will be released. Well, it will be helpful for people to get correct information,” the Prime Minister said.

In an interview with the news agency. PTI, Gautam said, “If someone is calling it names… like ‘propaganda’, ‘patriotism’ and ‘chest-beating’… Any section that goes to theaters already thinks or carries a preconceived notion that this is what it is about, you will never be able to feel or enjoy the movie. There’s no point in justifying the movie to them. I don’t think the public thinks about these things. “This film is for the majority of the public and we make films for the public.”

“Article 370” is produced by Aditya Dhar, recognized for his directorial work on “Uri: The Surgical Strike”, which earned him the National Film Award for Best Director. Yami Gautam, Priyamani and Arun Govil are among the star cast of the film. Yami Gautam essays the role of an intelligence agent in the film, which revolves around eliminating terrorism in Kashmir by making Article 370 ineffective.
