The T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner and fans of India and Pakistan are eagerly waiting for the two Asian giants to clash in the showpiece event. Nothing would have been better than holding a match between India and Pakistan in New York, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) brought the tournament to American shores, seeking to promote the game in the United States of America. But ahead of the long-awaited clash, ticket prices have soared to exorbitant levels.

The initial ticket prices were $6 (INR 497) during the official sale, but the resale market is seeing a meteoric rise. Tickets for marquee events, including the IND vs PAK match, were sold at a rapid pace only to be resold at higher prices.

According to various media, tickets on platforms such as StubHub and SeatGeek are being resold for at least double their original cost.

VIP tickets for the India-Pakistan clash had a starting price of $400 (INR 33,000 excluding taxes) on the official website. However, the price has gone up to INR 33 lakh ($40,000) on resale platforms. By adding platform fees, the amount increases further; up to $50,000 (INR 41 lakhs). In fact, you have to spend around $1,259 (INR 1.04 lakhs) to avail the cheapest ticket for the India vs Pakistan match in New York. On other platforms, prices are lower but still exceed $11.00.

Rising prices now compete with the cost of tickets to some major sporting events in the US. According to last year’s data, the average World Series ticket cost around $1,100 (INR 91 thousand), while the average Super Bowl 58 ticket reached $9,000 (INR 7.45 Lakh). The upcoming clash between India and Pakistan is expected to set a new record as the country prepares to host an ICC for the first time.
