In a shocking revelation, actor-dancer Shantanu Maheshwari recently had a harrowing experience when he was a victim of bank fraud and was dealing with it between January 19 and 29. The incident has left him deeply concerned and frustrated as he struggles to rectify the unauthorized transactions. “My email ID and phone number that are already linked to your bank account were changed. With the number and ID changed, that person purchased a different virtual My Zone card through my credit card and I also did not receive any information about from that card the expense was made,” he explains, adding: “The card was generated without my knowledge, without OTP and nothing. That’s what’s so scary and not just for me, for anyone. How can you Share your number and email ID? With anyone? And how can a credit card be changed and applied without you knowing?

Narrating the entire ordeal, he says, “I found out about this when I was trying to pay a restaurant bill and it said ‘insufficient balance’ on my credit card. I knew I hadn’t spent anything, so I checked and saw that the limit of five lakhs was maxed out. When I realized that someone else was using it, I told my bank that this had happened without my authorization and they asked me to change it through their app, but it was under maintenance, so what could not happen.”

The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor tells us that despite turning to his bank for resolution, he faced challenges. “I had a fight with the bank because they’ve been calling me to pay the bill because it’s two-way authentication and I may not have realized it,” he says. “I told them that I had not given any authentication and that is a problem on their part, no one has access. It has not been resolved yet. I was surprised to see their mail saying ‘you have to pay’. They are not taking responsibility for changing the OTP and email ID, so I’m still fighting for it. They still haven’t changed the wrong number and email ID,” adds the 32-year-old.

As a public figure, Maheshwari feels a responsibility to shed light on such incidents. “If something like this happens to others too, it’s a big deal. It’s important to stand up and say these things out loud. As a public figure, I can raise my voice and tell people, I can’t.” “I can’t even imagine vo log kya karte honge. It’s important to stand up and say these things out loud. I’ve blocked all my cards now and I don’t think I’m going to use any cards or anything like that for a while,” the actor concludes . .
