DENVER – Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued the following statement following the notification of Colorado Congressman Ken Buck’s resignation at the end of next week.
“I thank Ken for his years of public service in Colorado. From his time as Weld County District Attorney to his time in Congress, he has demonstrated his deep commitment to improving public safety and serving our nation. I wish you all the best in this next chapter. To ensure Colorado has the representation we deserve in Congress and minimize the cost to taxpayers, I plan to take swift action to set the date for the special election to fill the vacancy created by Ken Buck’s resignation to align with the Colorado primary. June 25th. “ said Governor Jared Polis.
The Governor will set the date for a special election for Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District to elect a representative to serve the remainder of Representative Buck’s remaining term. The Governor intends for the date of the special election to coincide with the June 25 primary election.
Colorado law requires the Governor to set the date of the special election no less than 85 days and no more than 100 days after the date the vacancy occurs. Once the Governor sets the date, the parties will identify candidates and unaffiliated candidates will be able to apply on the special ballot.
Governor Polis released This statement when Congressman Buck announced his retirement.
