Grammy 2024: PM Modi praises Shankar, Zakir and other Indian musicians

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain, Rakesh Chaurasia, Selva Ganesh V and Ganesh Rajagopalan on his own X. The Indian musicians took home three Grammy Awards on Sunday, making the country proud and standing out among stars like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. The Grammys

Ustad Zakir Hussain and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia won two joint awards for their song Pashto and the album As We Speak, to which the song belongs. Pashto, featuring American musicians Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, won in the Best Overall Musical Performance category. The song Abundance in Millets by Falu, in which the prime minister participates, was one of the nominees in the category. As We Speak also won in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album section.

Zakir’s supergroup Shakti also won Best Global Music Album for This Moment. It was formed by violinist L Shankar, percussionist Vikku Vinayakram and British guitarist John McLaughlin. Singer Shankar Mahadevan is also a member of the group.

Other Grammy Awards

Taylor Swift’s Midnights won Album of the Year at the Grammys this year, while Miley Cyrus’ Flowers was Song of the Year, plus Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For from Barbie. Taylor Swift also won Best Pop Vocal Album, while Miley won Best Pop Solo Performance. Miley performed at the event and shouted, “I just won my first Grammy!” while Taylor announced her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department.
