Jay Z criticizes Grammys for snubbing Beyoncé for Album of the Year
The 2024 Grammy Awards took place tonight (Sunday, February 4), with female artists dominating the top categories on a night dubbed the “Year of the Women.”
Taylor Swift won the Album of the Year award for the fourth time, setting a new record. Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish for “What Was I Made For?”, while Record of the Year went to Miley Cyrus for “Flowers.”
Earlier in the evening, Swift took the opportunity to announce a new album. The Department of Tortured Poets.
The ceremony’s live performances were also dominated by women, with legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell sparking an emotional reaction and standing ovation. Other performers included Dua Lipa and Tracy Chapman, who memorably dueted with Luke Combs on a duet version of their hit “Fast Car.”
SZA led the nominations with nine and ended up winning three.
As awards ceremonies go, this was a night that truly had it all. Even a surprise cameo from Meryl Streep…
Jay-Z denounces that the Grammys never awarded his wife Beyoncé with Album of the Year
Jay-Z scored a point on Good Husband’s unofficial scoreboard when he used his acceptance speech to recognize Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning album, despite never receiving the Album of the Year award.
The rapper took the stage with his 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, to accept the Dr Dre Global Impact Award on Sunday and noted the discrepancies in his wife’s Grammy recognition.
“Obviously it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion-based, but some things… I don’t want to embarrass this young woman, but she has more Grammys than anyone and she’s never won Album of the Year! ” he said.
“So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about it. The one with the most Grammy awards, never won Album of the Year. That does not work. Some of you will come home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may be robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category. No no no. When I get nervous I tell the truth!

Celine Dion surprises Grammy audience with surprise appearance after incurable diagnosis
One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when Celine Dion appeared to present the award for Album of the Year.
This marked the Canadian vocalist’s first appearance since telling the world about her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome in December 2022, after which she had to cancel her world tour.
As the crowd gave her a standing ovation, Dion seemed visibly moved by the warm reception and told the audience of her peers: “I love you too.”

Following his hospitalization in 2015, much attention was focused on Mitchell’s rare disease, which he has spoken candidly about in the past, known as Morgellons disease. This little-known skin condition is characterized by stinging and stinging sensations under the skin. However, the controversial condition has attracted attention among the medical community, many of whom believe its symptoms are caused by a psychiatric disorder.
In 2010, Mitchell described the symptoms of Morgellons disease in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Phoebe Bridgers: Former Grammy Awards CEO Neil Portnow May ‘Rot in Urine’
When asked about the “Year of the Woman” at the Grammys, Bridgers says, “Yes, I have something to say about women.”
She quotes former Grammy Awards executive director Neil Portnow, who once said that “women have to step up” if they want to win more Grammy Awards.
“Now he is being sued for sexual assault,” he notes. “I know he’s not dead yet, but when he is, he may rot in the urine.”
Portnow, who resigned as chief executive in 2019, denied the allegations. In a statement given to The independentHer spokesperson called the allegations “completely false” and “no doubt motivated by Mr. Portnow’s refusal to comply with the plaintiff’s outrageous demands for money and assistance in obtaining a residence visa for her.”
