Green Bay Congressman Mike Gallagher will not seek reelection

After four terms in Congress, Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Green Bay, announced Saturday that he will not seek re-election.

The Green Bay congressman’s statement announcing he would not seek re-election made no reference to the impeachment vote. In the statement, Gallagher, 39, said electoral politics should not be a career and that “Congress is not a place to grow old.”

“With great regret, I have decided not to run for re-election,” he said. “Thank you to the good people of northeastern Wisconsin for the honor of a lifetime.”

Gallagher has served on the Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, chaired the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, and chaired the Chinese Communist Party Select Committee.

Last year, several Republicans expected recruit Gallagher to challenge Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, who is running for re-election this November. In June, Gallagher announced that he would not run for the Senate and planned to remain in the House.
