Robin Minz, a promising tribal cricketer from Jharkhand who grabbed headlines at the IPL 2024 auction, met with an accident, his father said on Sunday. The 21-year-old was bought by former IPL champion Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans for a whopping Rs 3.60 crore. According to a report, the youngster, known for his great batting skills, was riding a Kawasaki superbike when he made contact with another bike and lost control. At the moment there is nothing serious and he is under observation,” says Francis.

According to the report, the front half of the bike was severely damaged due to the accident. The left-handed batter suffered bruises on his right knee.

Known for his great batting skills, Minz is a left-handed batsman and a devoted fan of MS Dhoni. His cricket journey is guided by experienced coach Chanchal Bhattacharya, who was also a mentor to the former Indian captain.

Hailing from Gumla district in Jharkhand, Minz came into limelight when he was noticed by Mumbai Indians, who facilitated his training in the United Kingdom.

Minz, who currently resides in Namkum area of ​​Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, despite not yet representing the state in the Ranji Trophy, has been a part of Jharkhand’s U19 and U25 teams.

His father, a retired military man, now works as a guard at the Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi, and Minz shares his house with his two sisters.

Apart from Mumbai Indians, Minz underwent trials with several franchises including Lucknow Supergiants, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite not selling out in the IPL 2023 auction, Minz got a big payday in this edition.

He could make his IPL debut next season. The competition for a place in the playing XI will likely involve Minz and experienced Indian goalkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

In the run-up to the bidding war in Dubai, Minz attracted attention during the mock auction, with former India cricketer Robin Uthappa describing him as the “left-handed Kieron Pollard”.
