The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have said they wish “health and healing” for Catherine, Princess of Wales, after she shared her cancer diagnosis.

In a brief statement, Prince Harry and Meghan said they hoped Catherine and her family could heal “privately and peacefully.”

Catherine said on Friday the news came as a “huge shock” after an “incredibly tough couple of months.”

He said he feels “well” and “stronger every day.”

No details of the cancer have been revealed. Kensington Palace says the princess is confident she will make a full recovery.

Catherine underwent abdominal surgery in January, but it was not known then that she had cancer.

Subsequent tests revealed cancer.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in January 2020.

They moved to California in June, saying they wanted space to raise their son Archie. The following year a second daughter, Lilibet, was born.

King Charles was also recently diagnosed with cancer and Harry flew to London in early February to see his father a day after starting treatment. He did not meet his brother during the trip.

In a later interview with ABC News, Harry said he was “grateful” for the brief time he spent with his father in London.

He also agreed that these health concerns could bring families closer together.

On Friday, US President Joe Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Catherine’s news was “terrible” and the White House wished the British royals a full recovery.

“I think it’s important that we respect their privacy, especially right now,” he said. “I’m not going to go any further than that.”

The couples appeared together in 2022 in Windsor after the Queen’s death.

Since Harry announced he was stepping back from royal duties, his relationship with his brother is said to have soured.

The brothers have rarely been seen in each other’s company in recent years.

But in 2022, William, Catherine, Harry and Meghan unexpectedly appeared together to greet the crowds outside Windsor Castle following the Queen’s death.

Earlier this month, both brothers participated in an awards ceremony in London in honor of their late mother, Princess Diana, but they did so an ocean away.

William gave a speech in person at the Diana Legacy Award, while Harry addressed the event via video conference from California, after his brother had left.
