Former India head coach and former international player Ravi Shastri praised young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after his excellent performance against England during the third Test in Rajkot. Jaiswal, who failed for 10 runs in India’s first innings, scored a fine goal in his next chance. He scored a beautiful knock of 104 runs before an injury forced him to retire hurt midway through. As soon as Jaiswal raced towards his third Test century on Saturday, Shastri compared his skills with that of cricket great Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, Jaiswal batted again on Sunday and finished with 214 not out as India declared their second innings at 430 for 4, setting a target of 557 runs for England.

“Impressed with the way (Yashasvi) Jaiswal has stepped up today. Not just with the bat but also with his performance on the field. I think in future, he could be one of Rohit’s part-time options “The ball would be in his hands, be it leg-spin, off-spin or medium pace. Jaiswal reminds me of a young Tendulkar. Busy all the time,” Shastri said during commentary after Jaiswal completed his ton, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“This is a classic example of the saying ‘If you believe in yourself, there is hope’. Nothing is impossible. It’s just a word. You will be constantly involved,” he added.

India beat England by a whopping 434 runs in the third Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series in Rajkot on Sunday.

This was India’s biggest Test win in terms of runs, surpassing the 372-run victory over New Zealand in 2021.

With an improbable victory target of 557, England collapsed to 122 in 39.4 overs on the fourth day.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking five wickets for 41 runs in 12.4 overs.

It was easily England’s worst batting effort in the series, with no batsman able to cross the 20-run mark except number 10 Mark Wood (33).

On the same ground, India amassed 445 and 430 for four declared in their two innings respectively.

The big win was achieved by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 214 in India’s second innings. The other centurions of the game were Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.
