Tom Selleck remembers Matthew Perry and the time he shared with the actor in the Friends place.
Selleck joined the sitcom in Season 2 in the recurring role of ophthalmologist Richard Burke, a love interest of Courteney Cox’s Monica Geller. The actor recalled being on the set of the show and connecting with Perry, talking about his father, as Selleck had a friendship with John Bennett Perry.
“Everyone couldn’t have been nicer to me,” Selleck said. USA Today In an interview. “But every day she would see Matthew and ask him, ‘How is your father?’ And he always smiled and we would catch up. I met his father when I was a struggling young actor. In almost every commercial or pilot I was in, there was John. “We became very good friends.”
Selleck has fond memories of Perry and the Friends Cast and remembered the filming of the episode titled “In which old Yeller dies”, where Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Perry) star transforming into Richard de Selleck and vice versa.
“(Perry) came on set and that brought the house down,” Selleck recalled when Perry delivered Richard’s line, saying, “Nice mustache, by the way. When puberty hits, that will really kick in.”
Added Selleck: “It was raw talent. Matthew is gone, so it’s easy to say this, but it’s true. I think he was the most talented of a group of very talented people.”
Perry died on October 28, 2023 at his home due to “acute effects of ketamine,” according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. He Friends The cast reunited for a memorial service in honor of Perry, to which Selleck was invited but was unable to attend.
It’s the bond between the cast that Selleck remembers most from his time working on the set of Friends.
“There are no bad stories. No star stuff. Nothing like that there,” Selleck recalled. “You would sit down and take notes on rehearsals and it was fascinating. Courteney would be sitting on someone’s lap and then someone else’s the next time. Everyone just got along. I think it’s because all of these actors had flops on other shows. And now they are in this coup. “Everyone realized how lucky they were.”
