Historical collection of George Washington’s family moving to American Village in Montevallo

Some historic family heirlooms of our nation’s first president will be moving to a new location in Shelby County. According to a news release, art and artifacts from George Washington’s Karl C. Harrison Museum in Columbiana will be moved to American Village in Montevallo. The collection from the colonial period to 1865 contains paintings, letters, furniture, porcelain, glassware, silver, jewelry, busts and more from President George Washington’s family. “I am very pleased to have this collection of Washington family heirlooms, which my family has lovingly passed down from one generation to the next, find a new home in American Village. Our family’s wish was for the collection to remain here in the Shelby County, and we can think of no better steward of these items than American Village,” said Helen Harrison Phillips, daughter of Karl C. Harrison.
