My son is a queer (but what can you do?)Playwright and performer Rob Madge’s acclaimed West End play has canceled its imminent Broadway run.

Producers say the production will open on Broadway next season instead of this (very busy) spring as previously announced. Theater and dates will be announced later.

No reason was given for the postponement. All tickets purchased will be refunded.

The one-man production was intended to begin a 16-week run with previews at Broadway’s Lyceum Theater beginning on February 27, with an opening night scheduled for March 12.

A hit with critics and audiences when it played at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London’s West End, My Son’s a Queer had been described by producers as a “hilarious, moving and infectiously joyous one-man play that follows the journey of a family as they explore their son’s love for all things Disney, theater, and his identity as a Queer human being.”

The show’s producers were Tom Smedes and Heather Shields. The comedy was to be directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet) and featured songs by Pippa Cleary (The great British musical Bake Off).

Last month, producers announced that the production would offer a digital lottery program that would make affordable tickets accessible to people who have to travel to New York to attend.

My son is a faggot (but what can you do?) is produced by Tom Smedes, Heather Shields and Peter Stern, under an agreement with Bill Kenwright and Paul Taylor Mills.

The news comes as Broadway, preparing for an extremely packed spring season, recovers from another very different last-minute surprise: On Tuesday, the Roundabout Theater Company announced that Tyne Daly, the star of its long-awaited revival of John Shanley’s Patrick’s Doubt: A Parable had suffered a medical emergency and was withdrawn from production, already in progress. She was replaced by Amy Ryan, who will co-star with Liev Schreiber in the limited engagement.

The exact nature of Daly’s medical emergency has not been revealed, but producers said he is expected to make a full recovery.
